When you get rid of the bacteria, you get rid of the pain and prevent the development of common tooth-related problems such as cavities, decay, and gum disease.

How A Dentist Will Treat A Tooth Infection
Once a dentist has determined that you have an infection, the dentist can work to treat the infection, clear out any abscesses that have formed, and assess the damage. You will usually be given a prescription for antibiotics too. If there are abscesses in the tooth or in the gums near the tooth the dentist will go in and clean those pockets out to get rid of the bacteria. Often that can provide immediate relief from the pain of an infected tooth. The dentist will also check your teeth to see if you will need a root canal in order to save the tooth.

How To Stop Jaw Infection With Oregano Oil
Oregano oil, also called oil of oregano, is a natural antimicrobial and antispasmodic remedy. Many people have successfully used oregano oil for treating a tooth abscess, which is an infection that can spread to the jaw. The pain associated with a jaw infection can be so severe that dentists typically prescribe pain medications. Oregano oil’s numbing properties reduce pain, and its antimicrobial properties will help clear up the infection. Before using oregano oil for this type of infection, talk to your doctor or dentist first.
Saturate one end of a cotton swab with oil of oregano and apply to your gums.
Saturate the other end of the cotton swab and apply it to any abbesses in the mouth. According to Medicine Plus, mouth abscesses may require surgery in order to drain the pus, which would ultimately reduce some pain as well. Oregano oil assists abscess drainage and kills the bacteria leaking from the pus-like packet in the mouth.
Apply oil of oregano to the teeth affected by the jaw infection with another clean cotton swab. A jaw infection typically affects the gums and teeth. Applying oregano oil on the tooth can prevent further tooth decay. Apply the oil to the gums between the teeth that are affected.
Do not eat for 30 minutes after application. This gives the oil time to work.
What The Research Says
Researchers in one 2003 study examined tea tree oil as a treatment for the common yeast infection strain Candida albicans, including 14 drug-resistant derivatives. During lab testing, they found that the oil was effective against all strains.
A follow-up test on rats confirmed these results. The oil cleared drug-resistant infections in rats after three weeks of treatment. Untreated rats or those treated with common yeast infection drugs remained infected at the conclusion of the study.
Before you try tea tree oil suppositories, its a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor to get a proper diagnosis. They can also offer guidance on how to use suppositories and other remedies.
Premade suppositories can be found OTC at most drug stores or through online retailers like .
Popular brands include:
You can also make your own suppositories. Be sure to use sterile mixing tools and containers and choose pure oils. Added ingredients can increase your risk of adverse effects.
Popular blog MotherWise explains that you can make one suppository by combining one drop of pure tea tree oil, three drops of pure lavender oil, and two tablespoons of unrefined organic coconut oil.
Pour the mixture into a mold before freezing firm. If you dont have an OTC mold on hand, you can use an OTC yeast infection treatment applicator. You can also make your own by folding clean aluminum foil into an inch-long canoe shape.

Cold Compress With Ice
When you have an infection such as an abscess, swelling occurs in the area. Applying ice to the area constricts the blood vessels, which reduces pain and swelling. This will not heal the abscess, but it will reduce the symptoms. For this method, apply an ice pack or similar to the area on and off for fifteen minutes multiple times a day.
How Oregano Oil Fights Bacterial Infections
If you were to load a bunch of fresh oregano on your tongue, youd experience a warm, slightly spicy taste. That taste comes from a compound in oregano oil called carvacrol.
Carvacrol is also found in many other herbs, such as marjoram, thyme, and savory. However, it has its highest concentration in oregano.1
In numerous studies, carvacrol has been shown to be a potent antibacterial against numerous strains of bacteria. It is thought to work by destroying the cell membranes of bacteria and stopping them from replicating. 2, 3, 4
What makes the carvacrol in oil of oregano particularly interesting as a natural antibiotic is that it is shown to destroy harmful bacteria while keeping helpful probiotic bacteria intact.
Research shows that, at dosages which cause 97% to 100% of inhibition of pathogenic bacteria, only 3% to 5% of probiotics were inhibited.5
This benefit of oregano oil shouldnt be understated. When you take a pharmaceutical antibiotic, it indiscriminately destroys all the bacteria in its path including the trillions of bacteria which we need for tasks like digestion and even regulating mood. The result can be a tragic dysbiosis of gut flora. In fact, researchers now believe that taking antibiotics may be a cause of disorders and diseases such as autism, depression, anxiety, diabetes, and GI problems such as SIBO. What Causes A Tooth Infection
The primary cause of a tooth infection is dental caries, or tooth decay. Your mouth is full of bacteria all the time, but usually that bacteria doesnt get inside your teeth where it can cause an infection. When decay causes cavities and cracks or holes in your teeth, bacteria can seep into your teeth and cause a tooth infection. An infection can also happen if you have an injury to your tooth that causes a crack or a chip in the tooth. Keeping your teeth strong and healthy through regular brushing and flossing can help prevent decay and infections.
Infection can happen in different parts of the tooth. Sometimes the infection occurs on the side of the tooth if there is an opening there and that can cause the infection to spread to the gums. Pockets of pus called abscesses can form around the infection that will need to be drained by the dentist for the infection to go away.

Toxicity Of Oregano Oil To Mouse Skin In Vivo
To evaluate any possible toxicity of oregano oil to the skin in vivo, mice were shaved on the low dorsal skin 24 h prior to application of oregano oil. Oregano oil at 10 mg/ml was applied topically on the shaved area once a day for three consecutive days. Mice treated with PBS served as negative controls. The mice were sacrificed 24 h after the final oregano oil application, and the skin was cross-sectioned using 8 mm biopsy punch for standard histological examination. The tissue sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin were visualized by Hamamatsu Nanozommer 2.0 HT and the images were processed using NDP viewer software.
DNA damage in oregano oil-treated skin was assessed using the DeadEnd Fluorometric TUNEL system , in which damage DNA undergoes end labeling with fluorophore as per the manufacturers instruction. Briefly, after deparaffinization and rehydration, the tissue sections were incubated with Proteinase K for 10 min to permeabilize the cells, washed, and stained with the TUNEL reaction mixture for 1 h at 37°C in a humidifies chamber. The sections were counterstained with DAPI to mark cell nuclei. Fluorescence images were captured using a FluoView FV1000-MPE confocal microscopy . For the positive control, tissue sections were pre-treated with 10 unit/ml of RQ1 RNase-free DNase I for 10 min to induce DNA fragmentation before the sections were assayed by the TUNEL staining kit.
