You can make your own boric acid suppositories by filling size 0 gelatin capsules with boric acid. The amount of boric acid needed and how long you use it depends on the type of infection you have.footnote 1
- Standard yeast infections. Try using an antifungal cream or suppository cream first.
- Recurrent yeast infections. Use a 300 mg to 600 mg capsule once a day for 14 days. To help keep the infection from coming back use a 300 mg capsule for 5 days each month beginning the first day of the menstrual cycle for at least six months. After six months stop using the boric acid. If you get another vaginal yeast infection see your doctor.
- Non-albicans vaginal yeast infections. If your doctor tells you that you have a non-albicans vaginal yeast infection, use a 600 mg capsule once a day for 14 days. If your symptoms come back, see your doctor.

Applying Oils Down There Might Not Be The Best Remedy Either
Other natural remedies for yeast infections you may hear about are coconut oil and tea tree oil. But take caution, the docs say. I would suggest you avoid the tea tree oil or coconut oil in the vaginal area because research doesnt suggest they work, and they may cause more harm than good, says Dr. Rainford. Candiduria In Clinically Unstable Patients
For critically ill patients, candiduria, whether symptomatic or not, should initially be regarded as a harbinger of disseminated candidiasis , since the kidney is the target of candidemia in 80% of patients . Indeed, the finding of yeast in the urine may be the only clue that the patient has a life-threatening infection. It follows that an astute physician will immediately consider disseminated candidiasis in such a patient and examine the optic fundi, the skin, and vascular access devices and obtain fungal blood cultures. Fortunately, most patients are not fungemic even when desperately ill, and their urinary tract is simply colonized by Candida, especially if an indwelling bladder catheter is present.
If the candiduric patients clinical condition is too unstable to permit an incremental approach to determine its cause or if clinical evidence for disseminated candidiasis is sufficiently compelling, systemic antifungal chemotherapy should be given immediately with fluconazole in a loading dose of 800 mg followed by 400 mg daily or with appropriate adjustment for renal insufficiency. An echinocandin is preferred if the patient has had recent azole exposure . The reader is reminded that an echinocandin has proven efficacy in disseminated candidiasis but cannot be expected to completely eradicate resultant lower urinary tract foci of infection. In the unusual circumstance in which the collecting system is the source of candidemia , relapse could occur.
Dosage For Capsules Or Liquid
These are the usual doses for adults:
- oral thrush 50mg a day, taken for 7 to 14 days
- vaginal thrush or balanitis 150mg, taken as a single dose
- vaginal thrush that keeps coming back 150mg, taken once every 72 hours for the first 3 doses, then take 150mg once a week for 6 months
- candida infections 200mg to 800mg a day for several weeks
- cryptococcal meningitis 200mg to 800mg a day for several weeks
- to stop cryptococcal meningitis coming back 200mg a day, taken long term
- to prevent fungal infections if you have a weakened immune system 50mg to 400mg a day, until your white blood cell count improves
For children, your doctor will work out the right dose depending on the infection and your child’s age and weight.
If you take your fluconazole once every 72 hours, or once a week, it may help to use a calendar and mark the days when you need to take it.
