You should not use MethylPREDNISolone Dose Pack if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

a fungal infection anywhere in your body.
MethylPREDNISolone Dose Pack can weaken your immune system, making it easier for you to get an infection. Steroids can also worsen an infection you already have, or reactivate an infection you recently had. Tell your doctor about any illness or infection you have had within the past several weeks.
To make sure MethylPREDNISolone Dose Pack is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

a thyroid disorder
Also tell your doctor if you have diabetes. Steroid medicines may increase the glucose levels in your blood or urine. You may also need to adjust the dose of your diabetes medications.
It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
It is not known whether methylprednisolone passes into breast milk or if it could affect the nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding.
Is Your Sinus Infection Acute Or Chronic
A short-term sinus infection is often referred to as acute sinusitis. Most cases of acute sinusitis last about a week, but this type of short-term sinus infection can last up to four weeks. If you suffer from a sinus infection that lasts longer than 12 weeks despite treatment from your doctor, its considered chronic sinusitis.
What Causes A Sinus Infection
In most cases, acute sinusitis is caused by a bacterial or viral infection, which means it usually develops after youve had a cold or the flu. Its possible for an acute sinus infection to develop into a chronic infection over time. However, most chronic sinus infections are caused by:
- Problems with the physical structure of your sinuses such as nasal polyps, narrow sinuses, or a deviated septum
- Allergies such as hay fever that cause inflammation

First of all, I wanted to share with you what you are most likely to run into with Infections and Prednisone Side Effects. So, prednisone as we all know is an immunosuppressant. I took prednisone to decrease my immune systems attack on my platelets, my blood cells. And one of the things that it also did, was it changed the number of white blood cells. It shifted the way the white blood cells showed up when they would test my blood. I would have a really high total white blood cell count. But it wasnt because I had an infection. So, it looked like I had an infection all the time.
If you just went by that one number. If you werent a really highly trained doctor, you wouldnt know that you have to look at all of the other little counts of the white blood cells to know whether it was an infection or not.
How Long To Take It
Take your azithromycin for the duration prescribed by your provider.
Usually, this is between 3-10 days. Make sure to take the medication on time and complete the full treatment course before discontinuing the drugeven if youve begun to feel better.
Starting and quitting the drug before the specified day can cause bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.

Prednisone Messes Up Neutrophil Count
It can make your neutrophils go crazy, either too high or too low. It can make your body release immature neutrophils, like little baby ones that were just growing, and have them stop adhering to the sides of your blood vessels and go out. Adverse Effects Of Systemic Gcs
Although GCS play a key role in the treatment of various inflammatory disorders, including chronic upper airway disease, a quite extensive range of potential AEs is well-described in literature and the chance to develop these effects seems to increase with higher dose and longer duration of treatment .
However, few studies have actually addressed the risk of common GCS-induced AE in upper airway disease. Also, most of the studies available on GCS focus on high dose or long-term usage for at least 6 months or even 1 year consecutively, which is mostly less relevant in the upper airway disease patient group.
In the following section, we aimed at summarizing the data of potential short- as well as long-term AEs of systemic GCS treatments for rhinitis and/or rhinosinusitis in the adult population. When no studies were available for upper airway disease patients, a mention of studies investigating AEs in similar patients was made. Practice Good Hygiene And Be Cautious
My second tip is, while prednisone does increase your risk for these opportunistic infections, theres no evidence showing that it increases your risk for cold and flu and your typical common infections. So, you dont need to be like a complete, you dont have to stay home all the time. You can still be around people, but you just need to take the precautions like washing your hands. And, you know what those are. What I want you to know is, you can still love your family, you can still be around them. You can still be around the people that matter to you. You just need to be watchful for signs of these random opportunistic infections that can happen.

Steroid Shots and the Culture of Instant Gratification, an editorial published Oct. 8 in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery online, highlights a chronic ailment in American medical care: a frequent failure to practice evidence-based medicine. Maybe Ive been living under a rock, but I was surprised to learn that doctors often prescribe oral or injected corticosteroids for acute respiratory tract infections like sore throat, sinusitis, bronchitis and the common cold even though evidence of benefit is sorely lacking and risks of the drugs are widely known.
Yet a recent analysis of nearly 10 million outpatient medical visits in the United States showed that nearly 12 percent of patients with acute respiratory infections were prescribed oral or injected steroids, and this dubious practice is on the rise. The analysis found that prescriptions for steroids like prednisone to treat acute respiratory ailments nearly doubled from 2007 to 2016.
Although steroids can be invaluable, even lifesaving, medications often vital to treating asthma, autoimmune conditions, and chronic pulmonary disease and preventing transplant rejection, their misuse can result in a treatment that is worse than the disease.
What Are The Best Home Remedies For Sinus Infections
There are a few simple home remedies that can be effective for relieving your pain and helping you clear your sinuses. To avoid using medications, try a warm compress on the nose and face, and flush nasal passages with a warm saline irrigation, says Dr. Elmore.
A homemade solution for nasal irrigation is one of the best home treatments for a sinus infection. How To Tell If You Have An Actual Sinus Infection
Even though we often say we have a sinus infection even if its just inflammation or an allergic response, there are symptoms of an actual infection that may be treatable with antibiotics. Nasal congestion and pain under the eyes or around the temples are, of course, main symptoms, but others include the loss of the sense of smell, green nasal discharge, mucus dripping down your throat, cough, fever, fatigue, sore throat, and even bad breath.
Sometimes, a sinus infection will clear up without intervention, but if you develop a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, have your symptoms for 10 or more days, notice that your symptoms are getting worse and are not improved by OTC medications, or you have multiple infections in a years time, you should seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

Acute sinusitis is on the rise again this time of year. The common prescription for an antibiotic and steroid pack is probably WAY overdone. The unlucky of us will then get a secondary bacterial infection that may warrant additional treatment.

The evidence says NO to oral steroids for acute uncomplicated sinusitis. Oral steroids may help moderately with symptom relief for a few days but the 30 day outcome is the same. Serious adverse events are uncommon however so it is still common practice many places.
In general, uncomplicated acute sinusitis is treated conservatively for 7-10days, assuming a self-resolving viral infection is to blame. Oral decongestants, NSAIDs, saline nasal rinse, nasal steroids all are helpful. When symptoms are persisting longer than expected for a viral illness then generally we turn to an appropriate antibiotic class and duration. Relapsing infections should consider early sinus CT imaging to confirm diagnosis.

How Do You Diagnose Chronic Sinusitis
The presence of two or more of the listed symptoms for at least three months raises the suspicion of a chronic sinus infection.
In such cases, we will evaluate you to confirm the diagnosis. This involves applying pressure on your sinuses to elicit tenderness. If the tenderness is positive, your sinuses are likely to be inflamed. We will then take a peek into your nose using a small flexible scope, and check for nasal polyps, pus-filled discharge, and deviated septum.
We may also recommend nasal endoscopy. This is an office procedure that enables us to view the interior of your nose and sinus passages. Its done with an instrument called an endoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera and a light. We will pass this scope into your nose and sinuses to look inside. Nasal endoscopy allows us to detect any swelling and polyps, as well as collect discharge from the infected area. This can help spot the cause of your infection and whats the best way to treat it.
If need be, we may also perform imaging in the form of a computed tomography to look for further problems.
Allergy skin tests look for allergic causes and to check for problems within your immune system may also be done.
What Should I Avoid While Taking Methylprednisolone Dose Pack

What Are The Side Effects Of Methylprednisolone
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives difficulty breathing swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights
- shortness of breath , swelling, rapid weight gain
- severe depression, changes in personality, unusual thoughts or behavior
- new or unusual pain in an arm or leg or in your back
- severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting
- bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- a seizure or
- low potassium–leg cramps, constipation, irregular heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, increased thirst or urination, numbness or tingling, muscle weakness or limp feeling.
Methylprednisolone can affect growth in children. Tell your doctor if your child is not growing at a normal rate while using this medicine.
Common side effects may include:
- weight gain
- slow wound healing
- headache or
- changes in your menstrual periods.

Where Does This Leave Us
What all these reviews have shown is that more and better research in this area is clearly needed. Meanwhile there is certainly some benefit to be had from using saline irrigations and intranasal corticosteroids. For patients seen by specialist doctors where polyps are seen in the nose, steroid tablets may also have a place in treatment. In cases where no polyps are seen, the case for antibiotics is less clear and should be discussed carefully between the doctor and patient.
