I had a rude cs representative who then placed me on hold for 45 mins, still no one. Do NOT use this company, I have wrote to both doctors to let them know this business practice

    Convenient & Quality Care

I started using Dr on Demand because my insurance sent me an email that they covered it and I liked the idea of being able to meet with doctors from my living room. Im currently working with a psychologist and a psychiatrist and the quality of care is just as good as being in an office except I dont have to wear pants lol the best part is they are ON TIME. Ive never had to wait beyond our appointment time to start a session. I did have a connectivity issue once but the customer service team had great service and refunded my copay and didnt charge my insurance for the visit. I like that I can read a bio about my doctors before I choose to work with them. Some are available the same day and others dont have appointments available for a few weeks, but I find scheduling options open up a lot more after your initial visit, at least for therapy. Havent needed to use it for a medical visit yet but I would totally use this app if I needed an antibiotic or something like that vs having to go into my normal primary care office and waiting an hour or more. The only downfall to this app is that you cannot get in touch with doctors between appointments. I can imagine why that is, but it would be so awesome if it had a messaging or voicemail service, even if they charged per message or had limitations on how often/what you could use it for.

Treatments For Ear Infection In Babies

In order to treat an ear infection in an infant, its necessary to see their pediatrician. We recommend that infants get treated with oral antibiotics for all ear infections to minimize the risk of complications, like rupture of the tympanic membrane and later hearing loss, Dr. Madden says. Amoxicillin is the most commonly prescribed antibiotic for ear infections for both infants and toddlers, she adds.

To ease discomfort at home, Dr. Johns recommends giving them a pain reducer like acetaminophen or ibuprofen . Some babies feel better when a warm cloth is applied to the outside of the ear, she adds.

Causes Of Ear Infection In Babies

Medical Myth: Ear Infections Require Antibiotics

Ear infections are caused by both bacteria and viruses. Its not unusual for a viral upper respiratory infection to precede an ear infection, Dr. Madden says. The fluid left behind from the virus can get infected with bacteria and cause otitis media.

One of the main reasons babies and young children are so much more susceptible to ear infections is simple: their immune systems arent strong enough yet. A less developed immune system is one of the main reasons babies are at a higher risk for ear infections, says Dr. Madden, as well as the fact that they often arent fully vaccinated yet.

Another reason lies in their anatomy. The eustachian tubes connect the nasal passages to the back of the nose and are the way that fluid drains out of the ear, Dr. Madden explains. Babies are at risk of getting ear infections due to their eustachian tubes being smaller and at a more horizontal angle than older children and adults.

    Is An Ear Infection Contagious

To some degree, the bacteria that cause ear infections are contagious because they may colonize, or set up residence, in the nose of children or close contacts. However, only a small proportion of children colonized with a new strain of bacteria will develop an ear infection. For example, in the case of pneumococcus, only about 15% of children colonized in the nose with a new strain of it will develop an ear infection, and usually only within the first month. Also, some bacterial strains appear more aggressive than others and will directly invade the middle ear.

What may be even more important than new bacterial colonization is the spread of respiratory viruses, particularly among children in daycare and pre-schools. Respiratory viruses are very contagious in close quarters. They frequently make a child more susceptible to an ear infection by upsetting the normal balance between the childs local nose immunity and the co-inhabitant bacteria. When the childs defenses are down, or the eustachian tube becomes clogged, the bacteria tend to infect the middle ear.

    When To See A Doctor

If you suspect your child has an ear infection, a trip to the doctor is a good idea. Once you notice symptoms of an ear infection, Dr. Madden says you should take them in, especially if they have a fever.

Whenever a baby is clearly uncomfortable and seems sick, they should be seen by a doctor, adds Dr. Johns. However, dont automatically assume that some symptoms mean they have an ear infection. For example, she notes that pulling or tugging of the ears is not always a sign of an ear infection. It may just be teething discomfort, and babies simply cant localize the origin of the discomfort very well, so they grab the first thing they can, the ears, she says.
