The Dosage Of Ciprofloxacin

How and When to use Ciprofloxacin? (Ciloxan, Ciproxin, Neofloxin) – Doctor Explains

The dosage and timing of taking medicine will vary based on the bacterial infection. Doctors check the age, kidney condition, and other underlying diseases of the patient before prescribing ciprofloxacin for tooth infection.

If the transit infection is severe, the dosage will be long-term. Based on your medical condition or response to treatment, your doctor can increase or reduce the dose.

This medicine has three types of forms-

  • Tablet- 100 mg, 250 mg, 500 mg, 750 mg
  • Extended-release tablet- 500 mg and 1000 mg
  • Oral suspension- 250 mg and 500 mg

Commonly adults are given the following dosage-

  • For mild to moderate infection- 250 to 500 mg orally for 7 to 14 days after every 12 hours.
  • For severe infection- 500 to 750 mg orally for 7 to 14 days after every 12 hours.

This dosage is usually given to adults for bacterial infections. But dont medicate yourself this dose without consulting the doctor. Your infection can be different from normal tooth decay, which Cipro probably doesnt even heal.

So consult with the doctor, and they will examine you to dispense the right medicine.

In Some Cases: Surgery

Ear infections often go away with time or with the help of antibiotics. However, some people may experience recurrent ear infections and fluid buildup, or have ear infections that wont heal for months.

In children, these issues can lead to hearing loss, behavioral issues, and speech development delays.

In these instances, a surgery called a tympanoplasty may help. In this procedure, a doctor inserts tiny tubes, called tympanostomy tubes or grommets, into the eardrum. These tubes reduce the occurrence of ear infections and allow drainage of excess fluids.

The procedure is very common and poses minimal risks. An ear tube insertion is more common for children, who tend to suffer ear infections more often than adults.

Home treatments for ear infections may be considered for mild cases in adults only.

How To Apply The Eyedrops

Ciprofloxacin 500mg Denk Tablet 10

You’ll usually put 1 or 2 drops into the affected eye 4 times a day.

For severe infections, your doctor may tell you to use the drops as often as every 15 minutes for the first 6 hours. You can then reduce how often you use it.

  • Gently pull down your lower eyelid with a clean finger and tilt your head back.
  • Hold the bottle over your eye and allow a single drop to fall into the space between your lower lid and your eye.
  • Wipe away any extra liquid with a clean tissue.
  • Put in a second drop if you have been told to.

Do not touch your eye or eyelid with the dropper as it may cause infection to spread.

Why Is Ciprofloxacin Prescribed For Tooth Infection

Bacteria cause most tooth infections. We have more than 200 bacteria in the mouth, and some are responsible for tooth decay. Viridans group streptococci and the anginosus group streptococci mainly cause tooth infection.

Ciprofloxacin covers the decay involving these bacteria. It has 29.2% coverage for this infection. Though its not that much more effective for tooth infection than other antibiotics, complete dosage helps to reduce the bacterial infection.

This is why doctors prescribe ciprofloxacin for tooth infections.

But antibiotic treatment isnt appropriate for every ear infection. There are a variety of factors to consider, including:

Recurring ear infections may also require a different approach.

An ear infection occurs when bacteria gets trapped in your middle ear. Bacteria known as Hemophilus influenza and Streptococcus pneumoniae are the most common bacterial culprits.
