University Of British Columbia Infection Prevention And Control Certificate Endorsed By Ipac Canada 2021
The University of British Columbia Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology and the Departments of Pathology and School of Population and Public Health, in conjunction with the Vancouver Hospital Division of Medical Microbiology and Infection Control currently are offering three online infection control courses and a clerkship in clinical infection control. These three-credit university recognized courses may be taken as stand-alone courses or used towards a four-course University of British Columbia Infection Control Certificate and/or towards a Masters in Science, Nursing or Epidemiology with the permission of the individual’s appropriate university departments. The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. is a voluntary, autonomous, multidisciplinary board that provides direction for, and administers to, the certification process for professionals in infection prevention and control and applied epidemiology. CBIC is independent and separate from any other infection control – related organization or association.
This is the most widely recognized examination for infection control professionals in North America. Partnership with IPAC Canada has resulted in collaboration on examination questions, exam centres being held across Canada and a IPAC Chapter award. CIC® Certification
The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. endorses the concept of voluntary, periodic certification for all infection prevention and control professionals meeting educational and practice requirements.

Linda Greene Rn Mps Cic Fapic
Linda is the Director of Infection Prevention, at the University of Rochester Highland Hospital, Rochester, New York. She has extensive experience in Infection Prevention in the acute care, long-term care, and ambulatory surgery settings. She held leadership roles in her local APIC chapter before becoming a member of the APIC Board of Directors in 2010. She was secretary of the APIC Board in 2012-2013 and served as APIC president in 2017. Greene was also president of the board for APIC Consulting Services in 2015, and she continues to serve APIC and the IPC profession in myriad ways, including as an advisor and contributor to APIC position papers and implementation guides, APIC representative to the 2020 CDC Decennial Steering Committee, and frequent presenter at regional, national, and international conferences.
The author of dozens of peer-reviewed publications, Greene is an expert on quality improvement, antimicrobial stewardship, and healthcare-associated infections. She served on the AJIC editorial board from 2015 to 2017. In 2020 APIC awarded her with the prestigious Carole DeMille award which is given annually to an IP with visionary leadership and extraordinary contributions to the profession. She has also received numerous awards in leadership and nursing.
What To Bring To The Exam
You should arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled exam appointment. You will be required to present one valid, government-issued ID , with your signature and a recognizable photograph. The identification document must be in Latin characters. If you are testing outside of your country of citizenship, you must present a valid passport.
All other personal items, including watches, must be secured in a locker for test security purposes, so please limit what you bring to the testing center. You will be screened with a metal detector during check-in. Please review the testing rules and regulations found on the Prometric website at www.prometric.com/cbic.

- If you do not provide correct identification at the time of the exam, it is considered a missed appointment. You will be required to pay another full exam fee before choosing another appointment.

Sharon Williamson has been employed by Texas Health Resources for the past 32 years and is currently the Senior Director of Infection Prevention for the healthcare system. Sharon earned her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Lamar University and her MBA in Healthcare Management from University of Texas at Tyler. She is certified as both a Medical Technologist and Specialist in Microbiology by the American College of Clinical Pathologists . She is also certified in infection control and epidemiology by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology and has received the Fellow of APIC designation.
Sharon served on the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology Board of Directors, as Secretary for the Dallas/Ft. Worth APIC Chapter, as a member of the APIC Education Committee, and as Treasurer for APIC. Having the credential demonstrates to yourself, your coworkers, your employer and the public that you are knowledgeable in your field. Barriers And Facilitators Of Implementing Infection Prevention And Control Guidelines
Barriers to the ability of healthcare workers to follow PPE and infection control guidelines include communication of the guidelines, workplace support , the culture of use at the workplace, adequate training, the amount of physical space in the facility, access to PPE, and healthcare worker motivation to provide good patient care.
Facilitators include the importance of including all the staff in a facility should be done when guidelines are implemented.
When an unusual cluster of illness is noted, infection control teams undertake an investigation to determine whether there is a true disease outbreak, a pseudo-outbreak , or just random fluctuation in the frequency of illness. If a true outbreak is discovered, infection control practitioners try to determine what permitted the outbreak to occur, and to rearrange the conditions to prevent ongoing propagation of the infection. Often, breaches in good practice are responsible, although sometimes other factors may be the source of the problem.
Outbreaks investigations have more than a single purpose. These investigations are carried out in order to prevent additional cases in the current outbreak, prevent future outbreaks, learn about a new disease or learn something new about an old disease. Reassuring the public, minimizing the economic and social disruption as well as teaching epidemiology are some other obvious objectives of outbreak investigations.

Centennial College Onsite And Online Infection Control
Centennial College Infection Prevention and Control course is designed for new IPAC Practitioners in a variety of health care facilities and settings such as acute care, community, Public Health, Long Term Care Homes, Retirement Homes, First Responders and Support Services. Taught by eight experienced professionals who maintain their certification in infection control , this course is recommended for health care professionals with a health sciences background. Through the use of group work and practical application, students will learn the principles to plan, implement, manage and evaluate IPAC programs in a variety of health care settings. This challenging evidence informed course is offered online via Zoom, with both recorded and live sessions.
Our Fall online course starts off with an intensive ten days, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Toronto time on Zoom, offered at the end of October, which covers content and then continues online with teachers and application through case study work. You can apply to take the CIC exam online or by mail. Documents supporting your application must include proof of your nursing licensure or certification. You also need to supply an attestation form that confirms that you meet all eligibility requirements. Your supervisor or employer must sign this statement. If the board approves your application, you’ll receive confirmation within seven business days by email or letter. The confirmation gives instructions on how to schedule an exam. Cancellation And Substitution Policy
A $75 cancellation fee will be charged to all cancelled registrations. Cancellations must be in writing and received via fax or email no later than 5 business days prior to the start of the course. No refunds or credits/transfers will be granted after this deadline. Participants who are no shows will not be granted a refund or credit/transfer of registration fees.
