HealthSavvy

Im 25 and not sexually active. After having a burning discomfort down there and lower back pains that my doctors were ignoring for weeks to months they finally did a test and discovered I had a UTI. I was put in Macrobid/ nitrofutonin 100mg 1 pill twice a day for 5 days. I took the medicine EXACTLY as prescribed. I was drinking both cranberry juice and water to flush it out completely. I did notice an immediate difference in the pain when I was taking the antibiotics. However, by the 4th day of treatment I noticed My infection stopped responding to the antibiotics. So I just assumed maybe its residual burning and irritation from having a UTI for awhile. Plus I thought once I finish the course maybe it needed time to kick in so waited a few weeks to see if there would be difference.

Other Tips For Prevention

Follow these tips to reduce your risk of developing a yeast infection, regardless of whether youre taking antibiotics:

  • Change out of wet bathing suits and underwear as soon as possible. Yeast thrives in moist environments.
  • Avoid hot tubs and very hot baths. The only thing yeast loves more than a moist environment is a warm one.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing. While theres no clear link between tight clothing and yeast infections, tight pants can increase heat and moisture around your vulva.
  • Wear breathable, cotton underwear. Cotton underwear can help keep things cool and dry down there.
  • Douching removes healthy bacteria.
  • Avoid vaginal deodorant products. This includes sprays, powders, and scented pads and tampons.
  • If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar under control.High blood sugar levels encourage yeast growth.

Antibiotic treatment kills not only gardnerella , but also useful bacteria in the vaginal flora that work to keep other germs in check. This means that antibiotic treatment can sometimes end up causing a vaginal yeast infection . This happens to about 10% of women who use clindamycin or metronidazole. Itching and a thick, white discharge are typical signs of a yeast infection, and it can also be treated with medication.

Other side effects may also occur. Metronidazole tablets leave behind a metallic taste in about 10% of women. Less commonly, they cause nausea and vomiting. Clindamycin is very well tolerated when used as a cream, and aside from yeast infections it has no other known side effects.

Preventing Yeast Infections And Utis

While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent a yeast infection or UTI from ever happening, there are some things you can do to ward off both types of infections.

Avoiding irritating feminine products, like douches, sprays, and scented tampons, can help prevent both UTIs and yeast infections, says the Office of Women’s Health. You should also skip long baths and hot tubs. And if you think the type of birth control you’re using is increasing your risk of yeast infections or UTIs, consider switching to another method.

There are also more specific things you can do to fend off yeast infections vs. UTIs, depending on which one you’re most prone to. You can further reduce your risk of a yeast infection by:

  • wearing cotton underwear
  • avoiding tight undergarments, like underwear or pantyhose
  • not staying in a wet bathing suit or sweaty leggings for long
  • avoiding unnecessary antibiotics

As for preventing yeast infections, you can try:

  • taking cranberry supplements

How Often Are Utis Resistant

The majority of urinary tract infections are now resistant to one or more antibiotics. The drug ampicillin, once a common treatment, has been largely abandoned because most U.T.I.s are now resistant to it.

The most important question isnt whether an infection is resistant to any drug, but whether it is resistant to the drugs that are commonly used to treat your particular infection.

When experts in the field think about resistant U.T.I.s, they say that resistance depends on the bug and the drug. What that means is that they try to figure out which particular germs are resistant to specific medications.

Now i know it’s a uti but now i’m still itchy and burning down there and the canesten cream doesn’t work. Could i have a uti and a yeast infection too…

Wndrwmn23

Yes you definitely can. I currently have both. My stomach and back hurt so bad and felt like fire, nothing I tried would help. I finally got an antibiotic today and hoping to get anti fungal tomorrow.

I went to urgent care thinking it was a painful stomach bug, because I also had diarrhea and felt very weak. They sent me to the ER because of how distended my abdomen was with my symptoms. They worried it was my appendix. In the end, found out my appendix was fine but have a yeast infection and very painful UTI. Its been a long week.

I currently have both a yeast infection AND a UTI. I have been getting both of these at the same time for a little over a month. What did they prescribe you and did it work? I feel like I am about to go crazy because no meds they are giving me are working and I am literally getting a yeast infection and UTI as as soon as I finish the medicine they give me.

    Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections

Most women who have had an uncomplicated UTI have occasional recurrences. Many of these women get another infection within a year of the previous one. A much smaller number of women have ongoing, recurrent urinary tract infections, which follow the resolution of a previously treated or untreated episode.

Recurrence is often categorized as either reinfection or relapse:

    • Reinfection. Most cases of recurring UTIs are reinfections. A reinfection occurs several weeks after antibiotic treatment has cleared up the initial episode. It can be caused by the same bacterial strain that caused the original episode or a different one. The infecting organism is usually introduced from fecal matter and moves up through the urinary tract.
    • Relapse. Relapse is the less common form of recurrent UTI. It is diagnosed when a UTI recurs within 2 weeks of treatment of the first episode and is due to treatment failure. Relapse usually occurs in kidney infection or is associated with obstructions such as kidney stones, structural abnormalities or, in men, chronic prostatitis.

    Signs Of A Sinus Infection

Sinus infections: Theyre painful, annoying, and sometimes debilitating. Powering through work amid an infection is like attempting to stroll through molasses youd just have better luck giving up. The signs of a sinus infection are distinct, setting themselves apart from other nasal and sinus dilemmas.

But occasionally a sinus infection is mistaken for allergies or a viral infection. Without the proper information, its reasonable to assume that a simple sinus inflammation could be confused for a common cold or the more ominous COVID-19.

Having said that though, things like colds and allergies factor into sinus infections. If youve had one, more than likely, youve previously had a virus or an allergic reaction to something. Even after the symptoms of said cold and allergic reaction dissipate, a sinus infection still develops.

Before we start on the signs of a sinus infection, here are two types of sinus infections you should be mindful of. First, acute sinus infections are more common and less debilitating. Second, chronic sinusitis lasts much longer and occurs more frequently. If you experience the latter, its time to visit a specialist, like the ones at the Ear, Nose and Throat Institute.

Anyway, heres why you opened the blog in the first place.
