Why Your Doctor May Not Recognize Candida

Many traditional Western doctors treat candida as though it is a made up condition or claim that even discussing it is quackery. Yet the reality is that medical science is only just catching up to the knowledge of integrative practitioners, who take candida overgrowth very seriously. For example, the link between candida and chronic sinus issues has only recently been confirmed by research at the Mayo clinic in the US:

    Dietsso Much Choice And Confusion

There is great controversy about different diets. I am of the belief that they all can work and can all be done healthfully. The trick is finding a way of eating that you like, and sticking to it over time. All the diets that rely on whole foods work. I would avoid the super low calorie diets, as over time your body adjusts to the lower calories, then will gain when you return to a normal calorie intake.

    How Estrogen Helps Grow Candida

How To Prevent And Treat Body Acne | Dr Sam Bunting

Many women experience an increase in thrush infections during pregnancy. Ditto when they take birth control pills.

This is not just happenstance. Pregnancy and birth control pills lead to a spike in the bodys estrogen levels and estrogen can help candida grow. If certain types ofestradiol are added to candida cells in a science lab, the estrogen helps increase the number of germ tubes and appears to trigger longer germ tube length both developments that support candida to germinate and thrive.

Another study has tested three different strains of candida in the lab and found that when estradiol was added to the mix, the candida showed an increase in growth and survived, even when temperatures were raised. The estrogen also helped to strengthen the Candidas multi-drug resistance compared with cells not exposed to estrogen.

Further research at Louisa State University Health Sciences Centers looked at the effects of both estrogen and progesterone on candida and concluded that:

Estrogen is the dominant reproductive hormone that supports and sustains an experimental vaginal Candida albicans infection and reduces the inhibitory activity of epithelial cells against Candida. Progesterone, on the other hand, has no demonstrable effect on the vaginal infection or on systemic and/or local immune responsiveness associated with the infection.

    Blood Pressure And Heart Medications

Both calcium channel blockers and beta blockers have been tied to vaginal dryness in some women.

Calcium channel blockers, which prevent calcium from entering the cells of the heart and blood vessel walls, are used to lower blood pressure. They’re used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure, migraines, and Raynaud’s disease.

Beta blockers slow the heart rate and reduce the force of heart contractions, stress on the vascular system, and the amount of oxygen the heart needs to do its work. They’re commonly prescribed for people with hypertension, angina, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, history of heart attacks, and migraine headaches. Beta blockers have been shown to affect blood flow to the sexual organs, resulting in reduced vaginal lubrication.

How And When To Take Eplerenone

It is important to take eplerenone exactly as your doctor has told you.

Youll usually take eplerenone once a day. You can choose a time that suits you, but try to take it at the same time every day. This will make it easier to remember to take your medicine.

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take eplerenone with or without food.

    Common Questions About Eplerenone

    We

Eplerenone is a medicine known as an aldosterone-blocking agent.

Aldosterone is a hormone that controls your blood pressure. It does this by changing the amount of water and salt kept in your body. Too much aldosterone can cause changes in your body that lead to heart failure.

Eplerenone works by stopping aldosterone from increasing your blood pressure. It also reduces the fluid around your heart. This helps improve your heart function after a heart attack and can help prevent heart attacks, strokes or heart failure getting worse.

Once you start taking eplerenone it will take up to 4 weeks to reach the full effect on your blood pressure.

Carry on taking your eplerenone even if you do not feel any different. The medicine will still be working.

Usually treatment with eplerenone is long term, even for the rest of your life.

Eplerenone is generally safe to take for a long time but you will have regular blood tests to make sure your potassium levels are not affected.

Talk to your doctor if you want to stop taking eplerenone.

Stopping eplerenone may cause your blood pressure to rise, and this may increase your risk of a heart attack, stroke or heart failure getting worse.

If you are bothered by side effects, your doctor may be able to prescribe you a different medicine.

Once eplerenone has brought your blood pressure down, it is still best to carry on taking it. It lowers your risk of having a heart attack, stroke or getting heart failure.
