How To Mix The Monistat Cream With Hydrocortisone Cream For Use

884 – Severely Swollen Outer Ear Infection Suction

You should use the same amount of both creams. The reason you want to add Hydrocortisone cream to the Monistat cream is that it will help relieve your dogs excessive itchiness.

When mixing, use the same amount of Monistat & Hydrocortisone Cream

After combining the two creams, you will notice it has a thick consistency. Add several drops of water to the blend of these two creams to make it slightly thinner, add it to a dropper, and then carefully squirt the mixture into your dogs ears

Use this home remedy treatment for a week to get rid of the yeast infection for good. If the problem does not subside despite the constant use of Monistat /hydrocortisone cream combo, youll need to bring your dog to the veterinarians office.

Do make sure you are using Monistat when selecting an over-the-counter cream to treat your dogs yeast infection. Do not mistake this product for another product on the market, such as Vagisil. While Vagisil relieves itching, it is not formulated to eliminate fungus , so its not at all useful for your dogs yeast infection.

Preventive Steps For An Inner Ear Infection

Though inner ear infection is non-contagious, viruses can make them contagious. Thus you may follow the preventive steps in order to prevent yourself from an inner ear infection.

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid sharing food and drinks from someone, who is suffering from ear infections.
  • Avoid smoking and especially second-hand smoking.
  • Keep your ears neat and clean as dirt, moisture, and wax accumulation will affect your inner ear parts.
  • Talk to your doctors about vaccination. Seasonal flu shots, pneumococcal, and other bacterial vaccines may help prevent ear infections.
  • Protect your ears from the fluid. If it is trapped in your ear you should remove the water immediately.
  • Keep drinking plenty of water and proper intake of fluids to protect yourself from dehydration.

What Is An Inner Ear Infection

Otitis interna, is the medical terminology of the inner ear infection. It is a disease that involves inflammation of the inner ear .

Now, this may become pretty painful, if proper care is not given, especially during the initial stages. Thus, if you are an adult having an ear infection, it is advised that you give serious attention to its symptoms and see a doctor as early as possible.

A condition diagnosed as an inner ear infection may actually be a case of inflammation and not an actual infection. An inner ear infection is inflammation or irritation of the parts of the ear called labyrinthitis, which is responsible for balance.

  • When treated promptly, most bouts of labyrinthitis will resolve in days to about 2 weeks duration, with no permanent damage to the ear.
  • Labyrinthitis can lead to increased risk of hearing loss, especially in children who developed the condition as a complication of meningitis.
  • Labyrinthitis can lead to a condition called BPPV , which causes brief episodes of dizziness and vertigo. The dizziness can be mild to severe.
  • Labyrinthitis may also lead to Ménière disease to develop years after the initial infection. Ménières disease can cause variable hearing loss, vertigo, ringing in the ears, and a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear.

Home Care To Relieve Ear Pain

Over The Counter Ear Drops For Swimmers Ear

If you have ear pain, itâs a good idea to talk with your doctor about it.

Thereâs little research to say whether or not home care works, but most doctors agree these treatments are safe to try yourself:

A cool or warm compress. Soak a washcloth in either cool or warm water, wring it out, and then put it over the ear that’s bothering you. Try both temperatures to see if one helps you more than the other.

A heating pad: Lay your painful ear on a warm, not hot, heating pad.

Over-the-counter ear drops with pain relievers. If they help at all, itâs only briefly. You shouldnât use these drops if your eardrum has a tear or hole, so check with your doctor first.

Pain reliever. Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen can often relieve the pain of an earache. Ask your doctor which is right for you.

Chew gum. If youâre on an airplane or driving at high altitudes and your ear pain is from the change in air pressure, chew some gum. It can help lower that pressure and ease your symptoms.

Sleep upright. While it may sound strange, resting or sleeping sitting up rather than lying down can encourage fluid in your ear to drain. This could ease pressure and pain in your middle ear. Prop yourself up in bed with a stack of pillows, or sleep in an armchair thatâs a bit reclined.

Monitor Your Cats Progress

While your cat is recovering from their ear infection, watch for these signs that your cats ears are responding to the treatment:

  • Improved redness, odor and discharge while cleaning

If you are noticing any of the following warning signs, discontinue treatment and contact your vet:

  • Your cat is fighting harder against the cleaning and application of medication

  • Red discharge from the ear

  • Red and white blisters in the ear or ear canals

  • An increase in odor or debris in the ear

  • Increased temperature or swelling of the ear

While its not common, some cats can develop sensitivities to the medication, and the above signs may be indicative that your cat has developed an allergic reaction.

Is It Safe To Use

While olive oil is generally safe, there are a few precautions you should take when using it in your ears.

Dont use olive oil or any other product in the ear if you have a ruptured ear drum. If youre not sure if you have a ruptured ear drum, see your doctor before using any remedy in your ear, including natural remedies.

Dont place cotton swabs or any other object inside the ear to remove wax or relieve itching. This can easily damage your ear drum or push wax deeper into your ear. Putting cotton swabs in your ear also increases your risk of developing an ear infection. Its also responsible for sending thousands of children to the emergency room with ear injuries each year.

Finally, make sure to use only room-temperature or just slightly warmed olive oil to avoid burning the delicate skin in your ear.

When Your Doctor May Prescribe Antibiotics

While every situation is unique, there are several factors that doctors consider when recommending antibiotics:

    • What they see If the infection is in the outer ear, it may be clear its caused by bacteria. In this case your doctor may recommend antibiotic eardrops to help clean out the ear infection. If your doctor cant see the ear infection because its on the inside of the ear, they may not prescribe antibiotics right away.
    • How long its been Viral infections typically go away on their own in 1-2 weeks. If the ear infection has been around for less than a week, your doctor may recommend waiting to see if the ear infection goes away on its own, a sign that its viral. If its been more than a week, your doctor may recommend starting antibiotics.
    • Your childs age The doctor may be more likely to prescribe antibiotics for children under 2 years old, especially if they have infections in both ears, have pain thats moderate to severe, or have a fever.
    • Symptoms If you or your child have certain symptoms, such as an extremely high fever or severe dehydration, your doctor may recommend starting antibiotics sooner.
    • Medical conditions Your doctor may recommend starting antibiotics right away if there are certain medical conditions, such as cleft palate or repeat infections, that could lead to problems with an ear infection. In most cases, antibiotics will also be recommended when someone with a cochlear implant gets an ear infection.

How To Get Rid Of Ear Infection

While some cases require medical attention, most ear infections clear on their own. Rest and some home remedies will usually do the trick.

    1. Holding a Warm Piece of Cloth over the Ear

Applying a warm compress relieves pain. You can do this in the following ways:

    • Dip a piece of cloth in warm water, drain and hold it over the affected ear.
    • Microwave a clean sock filled with either rice or beans for about 25 seconds and hold it on the ear.
    • Alternatively, do the same with one cup of salt. Heat some salt and put it in a bean bag. Place it on the infected ear while lying down making sure that the temperature is not too high to make you uncomfortable. The heated salt will draw out any fluid from the infected ear and subsequently reduce pain and swelling.
    • Do this for 10-15 minutes every day until the pain subsides.

    2. Garlic

Garlic is an effective natural remedy for ear infection. It has antimicrobial and antiviral properties. You can use garlic in any of the following ways:

    • Start by eating one or two cloves of fresh garlic every day to boost immunity and fight the infection.
    • Crush a few cloves of boiled cloves add some salt before placing them in a clean piece of cloth and putting it on the affected ear.
    • Fry some cloves of garlic in mustard oil until they are dark. Strain and leave to cool before putting a few drops into the affected ear using a dropper.

    3. Olive Oil

You may substitute white vinegar for ACV if thats what you have.

    Do Allergies Cause Ear Infections

Allergies can cause inflammation and contribute to ear infections by interfering with the Eustachian tubes ability to let air pass into the middle ear. However, in children under two years of age, allergies are usually not the main cause of ear infections. Allergy testing can identify the allergen triggers for your child. Medications or allergy shots usually can bring relief and also lessen the likelihood of ear infections.

Ear & Sinus Problems : Remedies for a Sinus Infection

Children who have an acute middle ear infection usually have an earache and a fever. They sleep badly, are restless and cry a lot. What are the treatment options and when is it important to seek medical advice?

Middle ear infections usually clear up after a few days. Complications are very rare. The earache often already goes away again after one day. Until that happens, medication to relieve pain and reduce fever, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen , can be used to relieve the symptoms. A lot of care and attention is also helpful, and some children feel that certain home remedies have a soothing effect too.

Antibiotics often do not work and can have side effects. So theres usually a good reason to wait two or three days at first, to see whether a middle ear infection clears up on its own. If the symptoms dont get better, the child can still take then. Antibiotics also help in children who are leaking pus from their ear, and in children who are under two years old and have an infection in both ears.

If a child is unwell, it can be important to seek medical advice early on. The doctor can tell whether its a middle ear infection and how severe it is. You can then discuss the most appropriate treatment approach together. If the symptoms dont get better despite treatment, or if the child has problems such as hearing loss, its advisable to see the doctor again.

How Is An Acute Middle Ear Infection Treated

Many doctors will prescribe an antibiotic, such as amoxicillin, to be taken over seven to 10 days. Your doctor also may recommend over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, or eardrops, to help with fever and pain.

If your doctor isnt able to make a definite diagnosis of OM and your child doesnt have severe ear pain or a fever, your doctor might ask you to wait a day or two to see if the earache goes away. The American Academy of Pediatrics issued guidelines in 2013 that encourage doctors to observe and closely follow these children with ear infections that cant be definitively diagnosed, especially those between the ages of 6 months to 2 years. If theres no improvement within 48 to 72 hours from when symptoms began, the guidelines recommend doctors start antibiotic therapy. Sometimes ear pain isnt caused by infection, and some ear infections may get better without antibiotics. Using antibiotics cautiously and with good reason helps prevent the development of bacteria that become resistant to antibiotics.

If your doctor prescribes an antibiotic, its important to make sure your child takes it exactly as prescribed and for the full amount of time. Even though your child may seem better in a few days, the infection still hasnt completely cleared from the ear. Stopping the medicine too soon could allow the infection to come back. Its also important to return for your childs follow-up visit, so that the doctor can check if the infection is gone.
