Vitamin B3 Stops Fungal Infections

Is Vitamin C Good For Urinary Tract Infection? | Ask Eric Bakker

Canadian researchers at the University of Montreal discovered that vitamin B3 can treat drug resistant fungal infections that attack individuals with compromised immunity and can lead to death. Fungal infections that include Candida, Apsergillus are resistant to current drug therapy. This study found vitamin B3 has broad antifungal properties.

Patients with diminished immune system function, including HIV infection, those receiving chemotherapy and organ transplant recipients. Vitamin B3 in the form nicotinamide was given to mice and found to have strong properties for inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans, a form of yeast infection.

Vitamin B3 stopped the functioning of a critical Candida albicans enzyme, known as Hst3 that is essential to the growth and survival of the yeast infection and also limited the growth of Aspergillus fumigatus. Aspergillus, another fungal infection that can cause severe allergic reaction and death for patients with lowered immunity.

Vitamin B3 is equally effective for reducing the growth of both drug resistant and normal infections caused by these organism, recognizes its potential as a new approach for treatment for common hospital acquired infection that occurs in patients whose immune systems are compromised. Diabetics are particularly susceptible to yeast infections.

Physiological Functions Of Vitamin C

Although it has been pointed out that the complex biochemistry of vitamin Cmay indicate effects on diseases other thanscurvy,6,7there is no consensus about the importance of the non-scorbuticeffects of vitamin C. It is usually assumed that the physiological role ofvitamin C is simply to preventscurvy.2

So far, the strongest evidence for the non-scorbutic effects of vitamin Cis the large number of trials on the common cold. There is firm evidence thatregular vitamin C supplementation reduces common cold duration in the generalpopulation however, the effect is modest and the practical importance of thiseffect is notclear.16 Vitamin Calso reduced the incidence of common cold in people under heavy acute physicalstress, although it had no effect on the incidence in ordinarypeople.16 Theseries of five controlled trials on pneumonia gives further evidence for thenon-scorbutic effects of vitamin C.

However, even if we recognize that there are non-scorbutic effects ofvitamin C, it is possible that they are important only in specific conditions. For example, it is possible that variation in vitamin C intake does not affectthe immune system in the ordinary Western population because of theirrelatively high dietary intake levels. Vitamin C might, however, be a limitingfactor in populations with low dietary intakes.

Oral Thrush In Babies

Oral thrush is common in babies. According to NICE, about five per cent of newborns are affected by oral thrush, increasing to 14 per cent in month-old babies and then decreasing gradually thereafter . Some babies also have recurring bouts of oral thrush.Experts believe Candida multiplies in babies mouths because their immune systems arent fully developed, meaning they cannot control the levels of the fungi . Babies who are taking antibiotics may also be more susceptible to developing oral thrush, or they may be affected if theyre being breastfed and their mothers are taking antibiotics. The symptoms of oral thrush in babies are similar to those in adults, namely white spots developing on a babys tongue and in their mouth, causing a sore mouth. This can but doesnt always make a baby refuse to feed properly or they may drool a lot more than usual. Other symptoms include redness inside the mouth and cracks in the corners of the mouth. If theyre having a mild case of oral thrush, a baby doesnt always need any treatment, and the infection may clear up on its own within just a few days. If the symptoms persist, however, an antifungal gel or drops may be prescribed by your doctor.

Other Vitamins That Can Boost Your Adrenals

While were on the subject, there are a few other vitamins and supplements that can support your adrenal function and help your immune system fight Candida. Here are some to consider:

Pantothenic acid This is almost as effective as Vitamin C in supporting your adrenals, and its actually best if you take both.

Ashwagandha Otherwise known as Indian Ginseng, this is an adaptogenic herb that regulates energy levels and boosts the immune system.

Licorice root extract This regulates hormone production in your adrenals and relieves adrenal exhaustion.

Of course, its not just about vitamins and supplements. One of the best ways to repair your adrenals is to cut back on your caffeine and just get some rest!

Recommended Daily Intake Of Vitamin C

Its fairly common knowledge that vitamin C is essential in the human diet. A prolonged deficiency is otherwise known as scurvy.

And no, scurvy is not limited to pirates and sailors, but it was way back in 1747 that James Lind deduced through a trial on sailors , that oranges and lemons treated this mysterious illness.

It wasnt until 1933 that the chemical structure for vitamin C was identified, and since then science has come a long way in discovering the benefits of it.

The National Academy of Sciences and the NIH suggest the following Recommended Daily Amount of vitamin C in adult females:

Female Life Stage
Breastfeeding 120 mg

Although scurvy is rarely seen today, its best to ensure youre getting the amounts above at a minimum. And its important to note that any recommended daily amount includes both food and supplement sources.

What is Nutritional Yeast? 7 Nutritional Yeast Benefits Dr.Berg

The vulva is a delicate area, and you should treat it gently. For example, avoid wool since it can make the place even itchier if you have yeast infections. On the other hand, satin, silk, nylon, and spandex dont wick moisture, which can create a suitable breeding ground for fungal infections.

Cotton is the best option

Cotton is the best material to use since its breathable and absorbent. However, women can wear sexy underwear since doing so can boost their confidence and mood. Nonetheless, always look for an inner cotton lining to absorb extra moisture from vaginal discharge.

Make sure to wash it with hypoallergenic soap to avoid chemicals that lead to itching, irritation, and allergic reactions. Tumble dry it on low heat after washing for about 30 minutes to minimize the presence of new bacteria.

If youve already had a yeast infection, you can treat it by using antifungal creams and lotions. These products contain ingredients that kill the fungus responsible for a yeast infection. Be sure to follow the directions carefully so you dont overdose on any medications. You can also use over-the-counter remedies like baking soda and tea tree oil. They work by drying out the skin and killing the bacteria that cause a yeast infection. Lastly, you can use natural remedies like apple cider vinegar, garlic, and oregano.

Other Benefits Of Vitamin C

Vitamin C, in supplemental form, was popularized by a Nobel Prize winning doctor named Linus Pauling. His research was the first to suggest that high doses of Vitamin C could help the body recover from illness. Although controversial at the time, his research has gained increasing acceptance in recent years, as the beneficial effects of Vitamin C came to be realized by the medical profession.

Vitamin C has been found to help with immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems and eye disease. A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition even showed that Vitamin C delays aging and skin dryness.

Third Advantage Of Calcium For Yeast

The third advantage is that it can help prevent the spread of Candida.

Since yeast infections occur when the Candida gets out of control.

It is helpful to prevent it from getting out of control by using a cream with calcium.

A lot of yeast infections are caused by excess Candida.

Itâs best to avoid it because the Candida will mutate into more dangerous strains if it gets out of control.

Another great benefit is that the cream can help your immunity to fight the fungus.

Once you use a cream with calcium, it can help to prevent the spread of the infection.

And help your immune system fight it.

Most of the advantages and disadvantages that people have for using Calcium.

Vitamin C As An Essential Nutrient For Chronic Infection Support

Whether vitamin C can directly help treat or prevent UTI has little impact on its role as a crucial vitamin for bodily functions.

There is an established link between vitamin C and immune system function. While a healthy vitamin C intake is essential for fighting infection, we also know that for many with inflammation in the bladder, certain types of vitamin C supplements can trigger bladder symptoms.

In speaking with recurrent UTI specialists, the primary recommendation around supplemental vitamin C is that it should be taken in a buffered form, to minimize possible irritation.

Its important to ensure any vitamin C is in a buffered form. One product I like for this purpose is Ultimate Protector. In addition to its potent antioxidant properties, Ultimate Protector activates Nrf2. Several studies have demonstrated that Nrf2 contributes to the anti-inflammatory process as well as increased cysteine production . This is especially important for those who genetically tend to make more ammonia and less cysteine. Ruth Kriz, APRN, Chronic UTI and Interstitial Cystitis Expert

How To Take The Supplements

Make sure youre already taking a daily high-potency multivitamin, along with an antioxidant combination. A strong immune system is your best friend in fighting off an attack of this fungus.

Vitamin C and echinacea are two stellar immune boosters, and they can help stimulate white blood cells to wipe out yeast infections. Take the echinacea until the infection is gone, then continue to use it for three weeks of every month to help prevent a recurrence.

Garlic is another heavy-duty immune booster and infection fighter. A key compound in garlic called allicin can block the enzymes that allow organisms to invade and damage tissues. If you have recurrent infections, utilize the immune-boosting effects of garlic by taking one capsule each morning.

To build up your bodys supply of friendly yeast-fighting bacteria, take acidophilusespecially if youve been on antibiotics, which can destroy not just bad but also good bacteria. For chronic, recurrent infections, either take acidophilus capsules by mouth or eat a pint of live culture yogurt every day. To feed those friendly bacteria and encourage their growth, add FOS .

Probiotics Are Likely Helpful In Fighting Yeast Infections

The candida diet also recommends ingesting probiotics or yogurt containing live cultures of the popular “friendly” bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus.

Probiotics are also a popular choice for curing or preventing yeast infections with natural products or home remedies .

The idea is that that normally, certain bacteria live in the digestive tract, on the skin, and elsewhere on the body, where they help with digestion and other bodily functions. Therefore, probiotics can help restore the body’s normal bacterial balance, preventing Candida yeast from growing out of control and causing an infection. .

While trying probiotics poses little harm, strong scientific evidence supporting the use of probiotics for yeast infections is lacking.

In 2017, a review published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews found that there’s only low- to very low-quality evidence showing that probiotics can help with yeast infections.

Is Folic Acid Good For Yeast Infections

Yeast Infection vs Candida Infection: Is there a Difference? Dr.Berg

Folic acid is a water-soluble form of folate, a B vitamin that plays many roles in your body. Folate is involved in DNA synthesis and cell division. It also helps produce proteins and neurotransmitters. Folate is found naturally in foods like leafy greens, beans, peas, lentils, oranges, and whole grains. If you take a multivitamin with folic acid, you should be able to get all the folate you need without worrying about overdosing. However, you may want to avoid folic acid supplements if youre pregnant or planning to become pregnant. The reason: Folic acid supplements can interfere with the way your baby develops.

Yeast Infections & Vitamins

Yeast infections are common in women, affecting 75 percent of them during their reproductive years. Approximately 40 to 50 percent of women will have recurrent episodes, and another 5 to 8 percent will experience chronic yeast infections. While there are anti-fungal drugs to cure most yeast infections, if the conditions which cause them are not corrected, they will recur. A variety of vitamins and other nutritional supplements are available for prevention and treatment.

If you are experiencing serious medical symptoms, seek emergency treatment immediately.

When To Seek Medical Care For Yeast Infection

  • If its the first yeast infection youve ever had. See a doctor to be sure its not a more serious problem that needs a different treatment, such as a urinary tract infection or an STI.
  • Youre pregnant. Any medications, including over-the-counter vaginal creams, need to be approved by your doctor during pregnancy.
  • You often get yeast infections. If you have four or more yeast infections in a year, doctors call it recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis. If you have it, youll need treatment for up to six months with an anti-fungal medication. Frequent yeast infections can also be a sign that you have diabetes or another medical condition.

What Can You Do

There isnt always a reason why a baby develops oral thrush, and its not usually caused by poor hygiene. There are, however, several things you can do that may help prevent it:

  • Sterilise any feeding equipment such as bottles and teats regularly, as well as dummies or any toys your baby puts in their mouth .

  • Try giving your baby some water to drink straight after a feed, as Candida may thrive on any milk that stays in their mouth after feeding.

  • Inform your doctor or midwife if you have any pain or discharge during breastfeeding, as these could be a sign of a nipple yeast infection that could be transmitted to your baby during feeding.

Can Vaginal Yeast Infections Be Prevented

Candex 40 Caps

For most girls, theres no way to prevent yeast infections. Girls may feel more comfortable and have less irritation if they wear breathable cotton underwear and loose clothes and avoid vaginal sprays and douches. Wearing cotton underwear may also help prevent yeast infections. If your daughter has diabetes, keeping her blood sugar levels under control will help her avoid getting yeast infections.

If you think your daughter has an infection, call your doctor for advice. Dont give her leftover antibiotics or someone elses antibiotics or medicine because they be the wrong choice for her condition. And taking antibiotics when they are not needed can make a girl more likely to get yeast infections.

How Supplements Can Help

With the exception of the suppositories, you can use all of the supplements listed here along with over-the-counter or prescription yeast medications. Begin using supplements as soon as you notice yeast infection symptoms and continue until the infection clears.

Vitamin C and echinacea help the body fight an acute yeast infection by strengthening the immune system. Vitamin C appears to inhibit yeast growth, and echinacea may signal white blood cells to attack yeast.

Garlic extract is another immune stimulator and infection fighter. A key compound in this culinary staple is called allicin, and it seems to inhibit the enzymes that allow organisms to invade and damage tissues.

Acidophilus contributes good or pro-bacteria that can hold down the yeast population. Its especially helpful when the yeast infection is the result of antibiotic use. For best results take it orally as capsules or use as a suppository daily while youre taking the antibiotic and for about a week after youve completed it.

FOS are indigestible carbohydrates that fuel good bacteria and encourage them to grow when taken daily.

Tea tree oil and vitamin A come in suppository form to be used every day. They are good alternatives to over-the-counter yeast-fighting creams: Tea tree oil is an antifungal and vitamin A keeps vaginal mucous membranes healthy.
